How We Serve You

Estate Planning

You might be asking yourself, “Why the heck do I need an estate plan? Aren’t those just for rich people?”

Our answer to you is, “Absolutely not! An estate plan is for EVERYONE.”

When properly drafted and executed, an estate plan allows you to:

  • Control and protect your assets now;
  • Determine who will manage your assets and attend to your personal care in the event you become incapacitated in the future;
  • Provide direction for how your assets are handled when you die; and
  • Minimize your estate’s exposure to taxes.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a single gal gearing up to save the world, parents to several super kids, or a pair of retired crime fighters regaling your fans with tales of your exploits while you relax at your retirement home – YOU NEED AN ESTATE PLAN. Let us help you on your journey. We can provide Powers of Attorney, Patient Advocate Designations, Wills, Trusts, and more. Plan for the future now so you can enjoy it as it happens.

Estate Administration

Perhaps you’re thinking, “I’m not worried about estate planning right now; I just lost a parent, and I’ve been selected as the personal representative. I have no idea what to do!”

Losing a loved one is hard enough without the added responsibility of serving as executor of the estate. Even if your loved one left a well-planned estate, there will still be work to do. The estate must be collected and managed, taxes and debts must be paid, and property must be distributed to the heirs of the estate. While you are dealing with your grief and helping the rest of your family honor your lost loved one, decision-making will be difficult; even small tasks may seem enormous. This is a time when estate administration by a professional can help. We can provide guidance on the estate administration process, and provide an ear at times when you just need to talk. Losing a loved one is hard; let us ease your pain with experience and kindness.

Veterans Benefits Planning

Did you know, in addition to your Veterans Administration Disability Compensation and Social Security benefits, you, your spouse, and your dependent children may be eligible for additional benefits? The VA Aid and Attendance Special Care Pension provides monthly aid to wartime veterans who require personal assistance in their activities of daily living, to help them pay for care. This benefit is also available to surviving spouses of deceased wartime veterans who need assistance with their activities of daily living.

Even if you applied for the Aid and Attendance Pension previously, and were denied, circumstances change. Just because you didn’t qualify for the Aid and Attendance Pension two years ago, doesn’t mean you don’t qualify now. Many eligible veterans and surviving spouses with incomes above the congressionally-mandated legal limit may still qualify for the monthly benefit when they plan appropriately. Using a strategy that includes a combination of estate and elder planning, you can protect your assets from being spent on long-term care. Instead put your Aid and Attendance monthly benefit to work for you to pay for in-home care, assisted living, or nursing home care.

The team at Michigan White Pine Law can help evaluate your situation, and perhaps find ways to maximize your benefits.

Medicaid Planning

Are you concerned about the growing cost of health care and long-term care? Perhaps you’re wondering if there are ways to protect your home and assets if you require assisted living or nursing home care. Whether you’re proactively planning for the possibility long-term care needs, or have a loved one who needs to qualify for Medicaid immediately, Michigan White Pine Law is here for you. We can review your current finances, and explore strategies that protect your estate while helping you meet the financial eligibility requirements.
